Biography

Prof. Belardi main area of expertise is Specialty Optical Fibers (SOFs).

He has worked for more than 20 years in a consulting firm and in important research centers on the design, characterization, fabrication, materials and applications of SOFs.

His most important personal achievement has been the very first conception, proposal and fabrication, in 2013, of a revolutionary optical fiber structure, later referred to as nested anti-resonant nodeless optical fiber. This fiber type is today the most important candidate for high capacity data transmission with low latency and loss.

Moreover, he has given major contributions to the development of simplified hollow core optical fibers for practical use in the mid-infrared spectral range.
